Revered as an outstanding art educator, he believed fervently in the necessity of arts education for everyone.

He established the Department of Fine Arts at UBC and held the chair’s position until 1968. During his tenure, he remained an active artist maintaining an impressive exhibition schedule. His work was included in numerous exhibitions in major Canadian cities as well as in the prestigious Sao Paulo Biennal and Venice Biennale.
