Jerôme Fortin: Constellations
Opening reception and artist’s talk – 22 May at 7:30pm. All are welcome.

Jérôme Fortin, Solitude No. 8, 2002. Books.

Montreal’s Jérôme Fortin is known for his ethereal zen-like work. He collects and recycles material and through often simple, yet repetitive modification, transforms it establishing a well-founded reputation for beautiful, inventive and meditative artwork. In a recent exhibition at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal Fortin recycled maps, phone books, lottery tickets..., cutting them into strips, folding and applying them to the walls to create immense rectangular Screens. Each with a limited palette, Fortin evoked the simple and meditative aesthetic of traditional Japanese gardens. His series Marins comprised of tondos built from dissected recovered pop bottles, each of which created the illusion of a seascape reflecting the environment in which the bottles were found. This exhibition will survey work by the artist produced over the last eight years and include a selection of recent work produced during a recent residency in Japan.
