Artist's talk – 22 August at 7:30pm. All are welcome.
Mario Doucette, Beausoleil Brousard III, 2007. Pastel, ink and pencil on wood.
Mario Doucette from Moncton, New Brunswick, combines both painting and drawing to create almost childlike images of historic incidents.
Inventing historic events including a First Nation's invasion of Europe and by adding absurd elements such as superheroes to his work Doucette seeks to question what we know as history and the perspective from which it is written, particularly regarding the Acadian Expulsion from the Maritimes in 1755. Doucette is a finalist for this years Sobey Art Award which is Canada's pre-eminent prize for young Canadian artists.
His exhibition at Two Rivers Gallery runs from August 22nd to November 9th, 2008. Join us for a reception and exhibition tour at 7:30 on 21 August or a special Artist's talk August 22, 2008, at 7:30.
A Bi-lingual catalogue will accompany this exhibition
