The Visceral Landscape--- a Short Survey

The Visceral Landscape- is a short survey of paintings drawn from work that Raphanel has produced over the last few decades. Selections reflect the artist?s interest in the land, his investigations into the impact of AIDS upon the gay community and an interest in microbiology. Raphanel sees all of his work as landscape based, although more recent paintings appear considerably more abstract than his earlier neo-expressionistic work from the 1980?s. This exhibtion represents a sampling of an eclectic and moving body of work by this important Vancouver artist.
