Two Rivers Gallery is looking for dynamic people who have a passion for teaching and learning!

Are you:

• A retired teacher or life-long learner?
• An artist?
• Someone who loves working with children of all ages?
• Someone who loves to share knowledge or wants to experience teaching?
• Interested in the arts of our Region and beyond?

Then you would make a fantastic addition to our current team of docents! Docents attend weekly information meetings/training sessions and are asked to volunteer to lead a about 4 tours a month.

What is a Docent?
The word docent originates from the Latin verb "docere" which means to instruct, teach, or inform. At the Two Rivers Gallery, docents work as volunteer guides, escorting school and public tours through the Gallery.

How much time do I commit?
Each Thursday from 10:30-12:00; informational meetings relating to the artists and art on display. Also, informative movies, lectures, artists' talks, and a chance to learn from and meet great people! (If you cannot attend the weekly meeting but would still like to volunteer, special arrangements can be made.)

Docents have the opportunity to lead a 2 hour tour approximately 2-4 times per month

What does the tour program entail?
School Tour Program: This is a popular educational field trip among teachers from School District 57 and children's groups such as pre-schools, Brownies and Guides. The Gallery offers two components to this program: a Gallery tour of the building and exhibitions, and a hands-on art activity.

Each tour takes approximately one-and-one-half hours. Docents prepare for upcoming tours, lead the tours and the hands-on activity, and help with clean-up.

Public Tours: Usually adult groups, the Gallery offers a Gallery tour of the exhibitions and building. Each tour takes approximately one hour.

Do I need an art background to be a docent?
Not at all! The Gallery provides all the training necessary to lead the tours. Your training will include instruction about:

• art terms
• art history
• artists
• elements of design
• teaching methods
• touring tips and activities
