The Two Rivers Gallery is pleased to share our 2007/2008 School Tour Program. We have created educational packages to encourage students and teachers to slow down and make connections with the art in the Gallery. Each program complements the BC Ministry of Education’s current Fine Arts Curriculum, and involves a gallery tour with accompanying studio project.
GALLERY TOURS
Join a member of our education team for an interactive gallery tour and accompanying studio project. Your students will connect with original works of art, exercise their looking eyes, become art detectives and figure out what it is all about.
The TRG School Tour Program promotes critical thinking skills and provides opportunities for self-expression. Programs are approximately one hour and thirty minutes in length and are geared to the age group. Kindergarten to Grade 2 students may finish their visit with time in the Investor’s Group WildSide, our interactive creative space.
All students create a studio art project directly related to one of the exhibitions that is aimed at stimulating their imaginations. The students use artist quality materials to create their own work of art based on the theme, medium or creative process used by the artist whose work is featured in the exhibition.

Wandering Lines and Water Vessels Program
Join us for a look at the art of one of the most important British Columbian artists of the twentieth century. The Wandering Lines and Water Vessels Program shares the art of B.C. Binning, on tour from the Vancouver Art Gallery. Catch B.C Binning’s love for drawing, explore his lively nautical-themed paintings and act as art detectives deciphering symbols used in his abstract work. Enjoy the whimsy of it all.
Studio Activity: Visit the studio; try your hand at experimental drawing games and create a group mural inspired by B.C. Binning’s water vessels.

Kaleidoscope Program
Discover two exhibitions of art featuring a variety of artists and media in the Kaleidoscope Program. Explore paintings by Lisa Hebden and Paula Scott, as well as photographs by Davida Kidd and drum installations by Aboriginal artist Liz Carter in the Debutante exhibition. Through group discussions and simple games, learn about stereotypes, peer pressure and growing up.
Then discover how man and nature meet in the Crossroads exhibition featuring art from the TRG permanent collection. See how artists explore the elements, cultivation of the land, harvesting nature and how humans, like animals, are affected by the forces of nature. Play the game “How did they make that” and examine the media that the artists featured in the exhibition used to create their art.
Studio Activity: Play with a mixture of media to create a fantasy mask featuring two sides of your self.
