Arts Fest '90

Various Artists

The Assembly of British Columbia Arts Council is a provincial association of over 100,000 individuals who are members of 90 community and regional arts councils. This volunteer association is dedicated to the development of the interest and participation in all forms of the arts. One of their many functions is the sponsorship of the annual, provincial visual arts and crafts juried show.

In the Prince George area, non-professional artists and craftspeople residing in the Central Interior (bounded by Mackenzie, 100 Mile House, Bella Coola, Valemount, and Burns Lake) are invited to submit recent works.

All the works entered are exhibited in the Prince George Art Gallery and approximately 20 pieces are selected to be exhibited in the Provincial Exhibition. This year’s jurors are: Deborah Shaklton, who is a freelance artist, designer, photographer and educator; and Ron Kong, who is the manager of the Crafthouse, a gallery and retail outlet on Granville Island.

The pieces that are selected will be exhibited in Images and Objects, the visual arts component at the BC Festival of the Arts to be held in Saanich on May 23 to 27, 1990.

All fine arts created by the hand and eye of an artist or artisan are eligible. Some of the things that the jurors may look for are: composition, form, technique, content, impact, colour, originality and style.

This exhibition is an opportunity to view works by local and regional artists in a variety of styles, media and subject matter. The diversity of the works is remarkable. We can see clearly how each artists answered in his own need through his own interpretations of the various media and in the subject matter he chose.
